just a little perspective
June 7, 2006
Have you ever wondered what you would do to frighten Lazarus after he had been raised from the dead? What would you do to threaten him? Caligula said “I’m going to kill you as I’m killing all the Christians.” Lazarus doubles over in uncontrollable laugher, comes up for air, and says ‘Caligula, haven’t you heard? Death is dead.’ How do you frighten the one who has already been there and knows the one who is going to let him out?
But.. just think of stepping on shore, finding it to be heaven – of touching a hand, finding it to be God’s hand – or breathing new air, finding it to be celestial.. or to wake up in glory and finding it home. Ladies and gentlemen, your hope and mine in Christ is that one day we will be with God. One day we will be with him.
We look back on history and what do we see? Empires rising and falling, revolutions and counter-revolutions, wealth accumulated and wealth dispersed. Shakespeare has spoken of the rise and fall of great ones that ebb and flow with the moon. I heard a crazed cracked Austrian announce to the world the establishment of a German Reich that would last a thousand years. I’ve seen an Italian clown saying he was going to stop and restart the calendar with his own ascension to power. I’ve seen America wealthier and in terms of military weaponry more powerful than the rest of the world put together, so that had the American people so desired they could have outdone a Caesar or Alexander in the range and scale of their conquests.
Hitler and Mussolini are dead and remembered only in infamy. Stalin is a forbidden name in the regime he helped to establish and dominate for some three decades. America is haunted by the fears of running out of the precious fuels that keep its motorways roaring and smog settling. And all of this in one lifetime, all in one lifetime, and all gone with the wind.
Behind the debris of the fallings of our solemn supermen and imperial diplomatists lies the gigantic figure of one person – because of whom – by whom – in whom – and through whom mankind may still survive, the person of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah calls Him Wonderful Counselor. Peter looked at him and said 'You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.' The apostle Paul, Saul at thiat time, in Acts chapter nine said 'What should you have me to do, Lord?' Thomas raised his hand and touched His side and said 'Be my Lord and be my God.' When Pilate looked at him and asked 'art thou the Christ?', Jesus responded with 'you have said it.' When the priest looked at him and asked 'Are you the Son of God?', Jesus responded and said 'You are right in saying that I am the Son of God.'
AMEN. Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

amen…what an encouraging thought…it certainly rings of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar…when THE STONE cut out of the mountain without hands crushes the kingdoms of man

thanks for the ring….hah wait that sounds awkward…thanks for the buzz…or call. Sorry that I didn’t answer..I don’t get really good signal at home. This may or may not make any sense, but now that the past has passed, we should hang out (there’s no need to analyze this; I didn’t mean anything)…..that is if both of us are ever not busy at the same time. Keep serving. Keep persevering. Tell your mom I said, “hey!” Anyways, it’s entirely too late. Peace out…or rock on…or rock n roll…or whatever.

man, that was really encouraging.
you write well David. let’s write a book (i.e. you write it, and i’ll edit it) . . . we’ll call it “Annals of Weeping Willow” . . . or something sappily prosaic like that . . . with a name of that nature, it won’t be pretentiously erudite or pedantic . . . it’ll be a treatise on truth . . . it’ll be great

i would love to claim credit for that… but it’s ravi zacharias. click that link to hear it with a soundtrack.. i typed it in from the audio.
it took me a bit of time, but it was worth it. i knew it would encourage someone out there in internet-land.
the day i posted this – i was really letting the concerns of the world worry me. perspective is everything.
go back and click the link at the top!!!

” . . . on the banks of the mississippi” . . . i feel like there should be banjos playing in the background.
or how about “. . . when the stranger from the north first came to our cottage. his broad figure filled the old wooden frame as my mother opened the door and the warm fire-light from inside illumined his weather-beaten face” . . . and then frank delaney sues us for stealing his idea.
or how about “. . . . . .” yeah, I’ve got nothing . . . you’re supposed to be the writer, remember?
