The Christian Anti-War Movement

I have long refrained from expressing my opinions on this subject. Today, I said to myself.. “Why not?” I posted the following on Facebook today; maybe some good discussion will ensue.

Politics and that of like nature has long been an area in my life characterized by a lack of clarity.

However, something clicked when I read 1 Timothy 2:1-2. Therein Paul urges us to pray for kings and those in high positions that the populace may enjoy peaceful and quiet lives. If he urges us to pray for peace, then this must mean that many situations occur in the midst of a wicked and depraved world that endanger the peaceful co-existence of neighbors.

As Christians, we are promised that we will inherit peace. The book of Revelation is one of the most precious books in the Bible – it has so many wonderful promises for the future without watering down the difficulties of the present. One beautiful promise is in Ch21 – “death shall be no more, nor mourning or crying nor pain, for the former things have passed away.”

It’s hard for me to identify with the Christian anti-war stance. I agree that as Christians one of our goals should be to promote and pray for peace, but we should not be naive about the effects of sin on the world and in man’s heart.

There will never be complete peace in this present world. Therefore, a main focus of the Christian should be the salvation of the lost so that they make it to the new heavens and new earth where GOD LIVES WITH MAN and where PEACE is promised.

Do you guys have any comments? I would love to hear your responses.

my flesh is tired

January 5, 2007

my flesh is tired of seeking God, but on my knees i’ll stay
i want to be a pleasing child until that final day
my mind is full of many thoughts that clutter and confuse
but standing firm i will prevail in faith and i’ll be used

have an old computer?

September 10, 2006

If anyone has an old computer that they aren’t using.. I’ll be glad to take it off your hands. I’d like to put Virtual PC on it first, then FreeNAS. I want to put my digital world in order – I have too many scattered hard drives here and there containing precious data and/or multiple versions of files and directories.
